Week 7

Literacy
Spelling words started once again this week.  A big well done to everyone.   Most students recieved their 10 points!  We will now have the spelling test on Thursdays as this gives me time to organise some children's lists. 

COMPREHENSION STRATEGY - Retelling the story needs to be in sequence! 
Using words such as first..... next....and then...In the end....
Please reinforce at home by asking your child to re-tell their home reader!  This will give you some idea as to how much your child is understanding. 

Maths
In maths this week we have been working on subraction.  Using a number line and a dice children  children have created subtraction equations.  Feel free to play a game at home using 2 dices. Take the smallest number away.  To make it more challenging role the dice to make a 2 or 3 digit number and then take away!


Week 5 and 6

EDUCATION WEEK - A big thank you to all who visited the school.  Hope you enjoyed it!

Literacy
These weeks we have focused on using exclamation marks and how to write a letter.

MATHS
During weeks 5 and 6 children have been investigating time.  All children have grasped the concept of o'clock are are working on half past.

Spelling Free (free) - this will be a great app when we get started with our spelling!


Week 4


This week we have been focusing on the Reading strategy of;
                      COMPREHENSION - CHECK FOR UNDERSTANDING! 
 Every now and then as your children are reading, please ask them, Did that make sense? This prompts them to think about what they are reading and encourages them to monitor their own reading.

words beginning in tw, tr, pl, gr, pr
igh as in light, night, right

MATHS - ADDITION STRATEGIES WE ARE TEACHING!

COUNTING ON
Encouraging children to count on from a larger number. for example. 10 + 2 ---- 10, 11, 12.
GREAT GAME TO PLAY. GRAB 2 DICES and ROLL.  First to add both digits wins.

DOUBLES
For example double 2, 3,4,5,6, plus

WEEK 3

READING STRATEGIES WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON IN CLASS-                            Please reinforce at home.

This week we have talked lots about predicting what we think we are about to read. Please encourage your child at home to look at the pictures prior to reading. Encourage them to discuss what they think is happening in the book and introduce them to any new language or names that they may be unfamiliar with. When it comes to reading this will assist them with meaning and fluency.

oo (2 sounds ) as in zoo and look
words beginning in dr, fl, fr, gl.


MATHS - ADDITION STRATEGIES WE ARE TEACHING!

COUNTING ON
Encouraging children to count on from a larger number.  for example.  10 + 2  ---- 10, 11, 12.

DOUBLES
For example double 2, 3,4,5,6, plus

and also LENGTH.  Today we looked at 1 metre.  Children looked for things that were longer, the same, or smaller than a metre.
